About Me

My name is John Hill, I am retired, and my web sites are a hobby.  I created my first website in 1996 using some primitive means, and gradually upgraded it using Microsoft FrontPage.  This old website can still be accessed from the navigation bar in my main website here.  I created the main website in various software, but after retiring in 2020 I had more time for my hobbies and started the website from the ground up using Macromedia Dreamweaver (now owned by Adobe).  In July 2009 for some reason I had to ring my hosting service support centre for help on some problem, and the technical person assisting me suggested that I check out WordPress which was avaiable free on the hosting server, as were the other software and MySQL database required to run WordPress.  Part of the process was to download copies of WordPress and the other software to my hosting server and I did this by creating a directory I named “WordPress” my domain directory.  In retrospect I could have called it “Blog” or whatever else, And so the adress of this blog site became www.jthonline.com/WordPress instead of www.jthonline.com/Blog or whatever.  Fom then on began a hunt for a WordPress theme that suited me.

The above is a photo I took of myself on Saturday, 12 December 2009 with my Panasonic GH1 (or Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH1K to give it its full moniker in Australia).

Years ago I wrote on this page “Eventually I hope to fill out this page with more information.”   In the five years since I wrote that, I’ve added nothing to this page.  All I’ve done is add a page explaining how I took the above photo of myself, and in December 2014 I’ve now added a page with a new self portrait taken with a new camera showing me a year after my illness in 2013.  A friend once advised me “Don’t ignore the obvious” and taking his advice, I have come to realise that I would feel uncomfortable about giving a lot of personal information on this page any more than I would on Facebook.
