In May 2009 I ran into the former curator of the Elders / Elders-GM / Elders IXL / Foster’s collection of Australian paintings, which Foster’s sold in 2005.

This chance meeting is a spur to begin work later this year on developing a DVD to show most of the paintings and information about the collection - started in the 1950’s by Sir Norman Giles when he was Managing Director of Elder, Smith & Co., Limited.

He continued buying more paintings during his term as Managing Director and then as Chairman of Elder Smith Goldsbrough Mort Limited (incorporated on 19 April 1962 to merge the businesses of Elders and its rival Goldsbrough Mort).

As a start on my work to create a DVD about the art collection, I've created a slideshow.

The slideshow runs for about 8 minutes or so after it has loaded.

This is a scene which I created in 2008 on my PC in Carrara, a 3D modelling program. The main use of the 3D program for me is to create titles (both anim ated and still) and backgrounds for videos.

The above was my previous Home Page for many years. The layout was controlled by Dreamweaver AP tags (Absolute Positioning) which are now frowned upon as old fashioned. At least they worked

Initially I used an AP tag on this page to position the Welcome section on the left of this sidebar, but it's now positioned correctly using CSS.

If you click on any image in this sidebar, a larger image will open.

WHAT'S NEW

Sat 1 Jan 2011

In the past 18 months, a long time in computer terms, I didn't get around to developing the gallery of photos I'd planned when I set up this website in 2009.

Deep down, I suppose that I knew this would never happen, as I had no idea how to set up a gallery that I'd like and find convenient to use.

Since then I've made a wonderful discovery.

The Photo Gallery on this page is no longer, and in it's place is the Galleria.

23 April 2011 (updated 25 September)

Here's a video advertising the new Korg Kronos:

Below is another video. It starts with a photo of the Kronos, and shows a keyboard being played. But it's not the Kronos.

It's actually the Korg OASYS, which can be seen in all it's glory on my MUSIC page where you can hear me improvising on mine.

The Korg Kronos is based on the OASYS, but lacks some of the features of the OASYS that I love, but on the other hand the Kronos has some new features that I'd like to have.

10 February 2011

The new year is moving along so quickly, it seems, that it's really no longer a new year.

Today I drove to Chadstone, found out where the Australia Post shop is, and renewed my Victorian driver's licence. Chadstone is one of the Australia Post shops able to take your photo for the new licence. It was a relief to get that done, as my licence was getting close to expiry. My new licence expires in February 2021 which of course raises several questions:

Will I be around then to renew it again? I'll be 83 in 2021.

Will my fortunes change so radically in the coming 10 years that I will be able to afford the Rolls Royce Phantom below, plus the new income, home, butler, driver and so on to go with it?

Never mind the Rolls, I'll be really happy just to be in alive and in good health, and be able to renew my licence in 2012 - and not need valet parking.

Q: Why should retired people over 65 years old use valet parking?

A: Valets don't forget where they park your car.

1 January 2011

Wow, another year has flown by and we are now at the start of another year to fly by.

I wish all visitors to this site the very best for the New Year, and throughout the coming year.

I'm actually drinking a glass of Moet & Chandon from the above glass size bottle as I write this and see the new year in.

For the past six weeks the home page of my blog has looked the following screen grab, which I've reduced in size to fit this column width.

As of today the WordPress blog now looks a bit of a mess and is a work in progress, or "under construction" as they like to say.

So please bear with me for the time it takes to develop my new WordPress theme from the newly released RichWP Framework.
