WordPress themes

Yesterday the thought crossed my mind that anyone who visits this blog page fairly often will by now have got used to the Thesis theme design and the rotating image gallery, and will perhaps have come to believe that it’s how the page looks and that its appearance is set in concrete.

So I decided to browse around for a new theme that would dramatically change the look of this page, for one day only, and this is the one I chose:

Tyson_Black_theme

Well, Reno made a comment on the new theme, using my last post to do it, as I hadn’t made a new post to go with the new theme.  The problem is that his very enthusiastic comment would make no sense after I reverted to the Thesis theme today.  So I’m adding this post with a record of the theme he was writing about, and as you can see it  looks totally different.  Not only the colours and header, but also the layout and the number of posts you can scroll down in full.  Thesis only allows the most two recent posts to be displayed in full.

One of the reasons that the appearance of the page can be changed with a mouse click is because of CSS.  My website has a long page devoted to my experience in learning CSS, where content and design are separated.  And the content is in one box, so to speak, and the layout and design instructions are in another box – and this includes fonts, colours, lines, and so on.

I’ve adopted another new theme today.  I really like the look of this one, and it has some neat features like tabs for categories.

I’m looking forward to Australian Idol next Sunday, because the guest mentor to the contestants, guest judge and performer is the legendary Liza with a Z.

For me, Liza Minnelli is an extraordinary singer and performer, and it amazes me that such a great legend is alive and visiting and performing in Australia – and she’s no stranger to our shores.  She married an Aussie.

Another self portrait

JTH-IMG_0254_0026

I‘ve worked out to use the iPhone DSLR Camera Remote to focus.  It’s focussed very well in the above photo.  The frames of my glasses are very sharp.  I’m not showing the original of this photo for the same reason that TV programs don’t show the actors, hosts or reality show contestants without make-up.  I’m only showing the processed photo.

The photo has been processed in Photshop using Nik Color Efex.  That’s the best I can do without makeup.  I had lots of amazing choices, but for today, this was the choice I made.

Now for the battle at Kruger Park, to be shown on Ch 7 tonight at 7.30pm.

West Coast Swing it wasn’t

I‘ve had a reply from Sonny Watson, and his overall response was that he laughed out loud when he saw what Luda Kroiter thought was West Coast Swing.  He said it was not even close to a West Coast Swing of any style or form.  Both dancers had no clue as to what they were doing. It was a mix of dances with a couple gratuitary basic WC Swing steps (very poorly done) thrown in about 3/4 of the way thru.

There was a lot of faking going on thru-out the dance, especially by the female (however she is very talented in her movement and do not mean to imply she is not).  Granted, everything they did, can and is, done in West Coast Swing, it is however done and executed entirely differently and within the rhythm of WCS.

Also, it was a fast “Fast West Coast Swing” song as Luda thought.  It was not even what is considered a medium Tempo’ed WCS danceable song.

If she went out and tried to dance that here in the states and more specifically, here in Southern California, she would get laughed off the floor immediately (as well as he).

He thought the Judges were being nice (compared to what they could have said about the performance).

Goodness gracious me

I was thrilled to get a reply today from Sonny Watson in California regarding the Dancing With The Stars argument about what constitutes West Coast Swing.

Sonny wrote that he was unable to watch the video links because he got a Yahoo!7 message “The content you are trying to view is only available in certain areas.”

I’ve sent him new material today which I hope overcomes that problem.

But goodness gracious me, as Peter Sellers would say (as an Indian doctor), when singing to Sophia Loren – why on earth would Yahoo!7 block the video to viewers in the USA.

And now for something completely different:

Australian Idol and DWTS

I truly enjoyed the first episode (if that’s the word) of Australian Idol last night, and I’m looking forward to the coming weeks. While it’s not a view shared my many, I thought Kyle Sandilands added value to the judging.

Dancing With The Stars was one of my favourite “don’t miss” shows when it was shown on Tuesday nights. But last year Ch 7 recheduled it for the prime Sunday night timeslot, and it has done so again this year. It’s not an easy choice, but I prefer Australian Idol at this stage.

Australia won the 4th game in the current Ashes series, but only after a wonderfully strong reply by England with their tail end batsmen.

Another new WordPress theme

I was thrilled to get a comment today, which you can read, and my reply, in the comments section, or by clicking on comments below yesterday’s post.

I notice that WordPress has automatically begun a new page for my older posts, with a link at the bottom of this page.

I’m up and running now with designing my own WordPress themes in Artisteer, and have posted a new theme today.  I’ve got a totally different looking design ready to post on Saturday, for the weekend.

Digital radio started today in Australia.  The 7PM Report commented on it in their program this evening.  Charlie Pickering advised, with a straight face as I recall, that listeners with digital radios will be able to listen to broadcasts of Parliamentary proceedings and be able to choose between the Senate or Representatives houses.  I don’t expect that will cause a stampede of people rushing out to buy a digital radio.
