I’m struggling to accept that Melbourne, a city of about 4 million people, no longer has a technical book store. I used to enjoy browsing at McGills when I went into the city, and I’ve bought many a book from there. I don’t know why the store closed. Perhaps it’s because of the current economic crisis. Or perhaps it’s because of Amazon, which can send books cheaper and quicker than ordering them in from McGills if they don’t have a book in stock.
I’ll always buy a book locally if it’s in stock. But these days, if it’s not in stock, I wouldn’t order a book from a local book store. It’s much quicker and usually cheaper, to order a book from Amazon.
