My first WordPress design

In Design, General, Media by John4 Comments

This evening I created my first WordPress design, called a “theme” in WordPress language.  Until now I’ve been using free themes that someone else has created.  You are now looking at a design I created.

I didn’t create the design in Dreamweaver, but in a program called Artisteer that’s very easy to use, and is great for whipping up a design very quickly.  Or it can create a far more individual design if I give more attention to each aspect of the design.  It doesn’t give total freedom in design (as Dreamweaver does), but it allowed me to the create the design of this page as it appears at the time of posting, in an hour of trying this and that, in every aspect of the design.

When I wrote a post last night with the heading of I’m gonna get a chainsaw, da da da da da I had a tune in mind that I couldn’t remember.  But today it came to me, and I’ve attached the tune to yesterday’s post.  Give it a play (by clicking on the link to the Joshua Rich song).

  1. Hi John,

Great to see the progress of your new Blog site – luv the new Theme design.

Still very busy over here … pulled another all nighter on Tues/Wed and missed my sister’s three Birthday functions – breakfast, lunch & dinner! I am under “notice” to plan at least one day off for next year’s celebrations.

Cheers, Man in need of a ‘chainsaw’

      Hi Reno,

It’s good to hear from you, and to read that you’re still working hard. I’m glad you liked yesterday’s theme. I called it jtz-green, so you can have it back again if you wish. Today’s is called jtz-painting. It’s from the painting that hung in the entrance area to Elders IXL at the Jam Factory. I took the photo at Sotheby’s in 2005.

  2. Hi John,

This is a great variation on the ‘theme’ of … make each day a brand new start. Now I can start each night with your brand new theme!

Do you think the original ‘owner’ of the image on which you based your theme might like your new creative and slightly double vision treatment?

Was it your intent (or WordPress?) that the name & mail field font is now Arial Black Bold?

Must go back to work@home as I have 223 emails to send …

Looking forward to my next surprise, home@last

      Hi Reno,

Thanks for the feedback. I’m the owner of the header image – I took the photo myself in 2005. It’s very kind of you to refer to the image as having a “creative and slightly double vision treatment.” It’s called camera shake. I’ve since got rid of that camera as it was hopeless for indoor shots without flash. Yes, the Arial Black Bold was my fault. Sorry. The good news is that the entire theme has been replaced today.

      Thanks again,
